Enola Low Grade Trail

History

The Enola Low Grade Rail Trail, formerly known as the Atglen & Susquehanna Branch, has a rich history as a major freight rail line for the Pennsylvania Railroad ( PRR). Built between 1903 and 1906, it was designed to bypass congested passenger service areas and facilitate the movement of freight between western markets and the ports of Philadelphia, New York, and Baltimore. The trail was eventually abandoned in the late 1980s and 1990s but has been repurposed as a recreational trail, offering scenic views and historical insights.
